The 2014 Black Online News Network "Bonny" Award goes to “12 Years as a Slave”
The movie “12 Years as a Slave”, based on an incredible true story of one man’s fight for survival and freedom has been named by the Black Online News Network as winner of The Bonny, its annual award for outstanding achievement.
“12 Years as a Slave,” directed by Steve McQueen and written by John Ridley, was released in the United States on October 18, 2013. The cast, in addition to Ejiofor, Fassbender and Pitt, features Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, Paul Giamatti, Lupita Nyong’o, Sarah Paulson and Alfre Woodard. Principal photography took place in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The film has received widespread critical acclaim. The performance of Chiwetel Ejiofor as Solomon Northrup has been applauded as an exceptional example of a man demonstrating determination to retain the essence of his humanity and survive as his world blows up around him, an understated but powerful effort.
