San Fernando Valley Arts Council Turns City Hall into Concert Hall
Support for a new arts & cultural center raises its voice in more ways than one.
The San Fernando Valley Arts Council has been around since the 60s and was deemed the umbrella nonprofit for all Valley visual and performing arts organizations. This all‐volunteer 501(c) (3) has been the guiding force behind the arts in the Valley for a very long time.
At the City Council meeting we will be speaking during the public comment portion of the meeting.
Speakers will be:
•Dori Marler, former President of the Valley Watercolor Society and the San Fernando Valley Art Club and former member of the Valley Institute of Visual Art.
•Juliana Martinez, Director of Public Art for the San Fernando Valley Arts Council and well known mosaic tile & mural artist.
•Jerry Brown, General Director of Center Stage Opera
•Shira Renee Thomas, Co‐Artistic Director of Center Stage Opera
•Carolyn Uhri, former President of the Valley Institute of Visual Art and Vice President of the San Fernando Valley Arts Council
Shira Renee Thomas will actually be singing for the city council instead of speaking, as this is just one of the many layers of the arts that the San Fernando Valley Arts Council plans to support and promote.
It’s not very often that the City Hall is converted into a concert hall. We want to make sure that our council members understand that the Valley is NOT a ‘cultural wasteland’ and deserves to have an arts & cultural center to serve the 1.8 million inhabitants who live in the Valley.
