Kelowna is not happy with 8th place!

KELOWNA, British Columbia - Feb. 4, 2014 - PRLog -- On a recent trip to Europe, Lucy heard about the Pharrell William’s song, Happy, from the movie Despicable Me and how it was being used as therapy for various groups of people. The song has been a huge hit in Europe for quite some time, but has yet to take off in North America.

Back in Canada, Lucy found a Pharrell Williams Happy YouTube video and another, and another! It turns out that communities around the world were doing their own version of the “Happy video”. She played the song to her husband and staff and thought about doing a Giobean version.

Two weeks ago today, that plan turned into Western Canada’s first community happy video production. While only one community in Canada (Montreal) has uploaded their happy video, Lucy wanted to show the world that Kelowna really is the happiest place in Canada. Just a month ago, Kelowna was ranked the 8th happiest City in Canada. The recent launch of Kelowna’s Happy Video may just change that.

“It has been a totally time consuming project” said Lucy, adding “We have met so many lovely people who have been willing to help and be a part of the video. When you travel the world now and then, you realise just what an amazing place Kelowna really is. We wanted to show it off a little”

Together with local entrepreneur, Mark Jennings-Bates, they brought together some dancing talent and mixed them up with a group of happy Kelowna people. “It wasn’t hard to get the feel we were looking for” explained Jennings-Bates, adding “We already knew Kelowna was one of the happiest places on the planet, we wanted to demonstrate it. You can tell by the smiles and laughter in the video that it is completely natural”.

With many community happy videos garnering almost half a million views in a matter of weeks, Lucy is hoping that Kelowna can get the same kind of traction and exposure.

For Lucy and Mark they go back to their respective business ventures just that little bit happier, knowing that they have been a part of an exciting project that demonstrates why Kelowna is #1 in their minds!
