Bienenstock to Present at BCRPA’s 37th Annual Conference

CEO and Principal Designer Adam Bienenstock to Present Keynote and Workshop Session on Natural Playgrounds
By: Bienenstock

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Feb. 3, 2014 - PRLog -- – Award winning consultant and internationally acclaimed public speaker Adam Bienenstock will be giving a keynote presentation on the importance and viability of connecting to nature in an urban environment. The plenary session will take place at BCRPA’s 2014 Spring Training Conference this Wednesday, February 5, at the Hilton Metrotown in Burnaby.  In addition to the keynote presentation, the CEO and principal designer of Bienenstock (www.naturalplaygrounds.ca) will be hosting a sold out, interactive 3D modeling workshop on Tuesday February 4, which will focus on natural playground design theory and practice.

On the heels of his successful Australian speaking tour with Risk and Play expert Tim Gill, and following a string of sold out engagements at the NAEYC Conference in Washington D.C. and the Canadian Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion Conference in Montreal, the BCRPA again welcomes Adam to speak on the topic of connecting kids to nature and community engagement.

As part of the Bringing Nature to Life lecture series, “Getting Past the Grown Ups” outlines how providing natural elements and components in urban parks and playgrounds can dramatically improve community health and wellness.  Adam explains what natural playgrounds are and why they are important, and offers practical starting points for grass roots initiatives.  The workshop “Natural Playgrounds” teaches how to justify, design, build, and maintain natural playgrounds and how to negotiate through the labyrinth of applicable standards and building codes. Using scaled sand modeling and a collaborative approach, participants get their hands dirty before discussing the strengths and weaknesses of each design.

“Similar to what everyone else has said, this was one of the most interesting and enjoyable presentations I have listened to in my 15 years in Local Government…I can say that we have all walked away motivated and with strategies in mind to work with our Council teams and support them in creating  Nature Play areas in our communities.  We are already keen to have Adam return for another visit.”

"We came out of his session with the ammunition, ability, and desire to create our own natural playground," said one NAEYC participant. "We came away from his talk with a smile and a purpose."
