BETHPAGE, N.Y. - Feb. 2, 2014 - PRLog -- Traditionally, wedding videographers capture their weddings by recording to HD cassettes or memory cards using cassette movie cameras or DSLR (a camera that encodes an image digitally and store it for later reproduction) cameras. The results from cassette movie cameras are OK, at best, while the DLSR cameras are high quality and the wedding videos produced from these, when used correctly, are of excellent quality.

Looking to go above and beyond "excellent", Long Island wedding videographers White Diamond Video has purchased two Blackmagic Cinema Camera's as an experiment to film three weddings. The results are extraordinary! The Blackmagic website states the Cinema Camera is the world’s finest camera with 13 stops of dynamic range. Dynamic range is important for capturing more detail and image quality is improved. The camera is revolutionary to the film world because it's footage may be compared to the $50,000 and $100,000 cameras Hollywood uses for big budget films. Priced at $3,999, the cost of renting a Hollywood movie camera for one day is greater than the cost of the Blackmagic cinema camera.

Filming with the Blackmagic took some time getting used to, White Diamond Video owner and lead filmmaker Stefan James says "the camera uses a aluminum chassis with a 5-inch LCD touch screen and a fan to keep the solid state flash drive cool. The camera is about two to three times heavier than Canon's 5diii making for hand holding during the wedding nearly impossible for long periods of time. Film quality is amazing, however. We discovered that the raw footage is a little on the flat side but once we color correct in post production, the quality is sharper and the colors are more vibrant that any DLSR".

Stefan goes on to say "we are excited to be the first team of Long Island wedding videographers, and beyond perhaps, using the cinema camera to film weddings."

While there is a learning curve, we plan on investing in more accessories and look forward to purchasing Blackmagic's next model cinema camera.
