| Miss Oregon Teams Up with Portland Filmmaker on Short Film and Wins “Spirit of Comic Con" AwardMiss Oregon USA Teams Up with Portland Filmmaker on Video Game-Inspired Short Film and Wins “Spirit of Comic Con” Award at Wizard World
By: Big Puddle Films Pelett grew up before Portland’s eyes in commercials for her father’s store, City Liquidators, and has been participating in beauty pageants for several years, so it's not surprising that she has pursued other interests that put her in the public eye. "Pageantry has helped me become more outgoing. I used to be very shy, and competing in pageants has helped me learn to put myself 'out-there'," Satterlund, who enjoys crafting dynamic action stories, created this homage to Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell books and video games with Aris Juson. Juson recommended Pelett to Satterlund. "When Aris called and said he wanted to collaborate on a project, I was all in. When he and Jason told me the concept, and that I had the opportunity to play a villain, I was over the moon. I rarely get to be the villain," Pelett observes. "It was an exciting and well-written role which lent me the chance to play a complex and powerful character. Powerful and commanding roles are usually reserved for men. Playing the only female role in the script was an honor." Satterlund marks working with Pelett as a professional highlight, although he initially had reservations. "Emma and I didn't know each other very well at the start of this project. In the beginning, I was a bit apprehensive," Pelett's reaction to the Wizard World award reflects her generous nature. "I'm very excited that Splinter Cell - Extraction won an award, but not surprised. Jason and Aris have been creating movie magic for some time now, and their work always impresses me. From concept to execution, their work as a team is unmatched in Portland." Watch Splinter Cell - Extraction at http://www.youtube.com/ The Wizard World Film Festival judges found the project to be "a very professional action piece. Something right out of modern movies. These filmmakers have studied their craft and apply it here very well," Jeff Wexler, the Film Festival Coordinator for Wizard World, reports. "The Spirit of Comic Con" is awarded to films that truly capture the essence of Comic Con, and is typically the Wizard World staff favorite. The combination of over-the-top action, irreverent humor and incredible production quality made Splinter Cell - Extraction a perfect pick for the Spirit of Comic Con award." Wizard World Comic Con is a traveling festival, with 15 more Wizard Cons taking place in 2014. Pelett and Satterlund’s film will screen at each festival.
