DELAND, Fla. - Jan. 30, 2014 - PRLog -- Florida Hospital DeLand and Alliance Community, a local retirement community, have announced a partnership, offering patients a new choice in where to stay after a surgical procedure.

Patients who travel to Florida Hospital DeLand to undergo a procedure with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Mark Hollmann have found that receiving follow-up care after being discharged can sometimes be challenging. While patients who live locally can go home and then easily return to the physician’s office for follow-up care, those who travel from out-of-town, must either stay in a hotel room or commute home and then back to the physician’s office for post-operative care.

With this new partnership with the Alliance Community, patients can stay in a private one-bedroom apartment for less than $100 per night and receive home health physical therapy services.

“We have many patients who travel to DeLand, some as far away as Georgia, for Dr. Hollmann to perform the Makoplasty® procedure,” said Kem Castle, Florida Hospital DeLand Orthopaedic Service Line Manager. “Now with our partnership with the Alliance Community, our patients can stay close to the hospital in a private, comfortable environment, making it easier for them to see their physician for follow-up care after their surgery.”

Patients commute to DeLand to see Dr. Hollmann because he is one of the most experienced total joint surgeons in Central Florida. Additionally, he is Volusia County’s only member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) and was the first surgeon in the area to perform the Makoplasty® robotic partial knee replacement — also known as Roboknee.

MAKOplasty® partial knee resurfacing is an innovative treatment option for patients living with early to mid-stage osteoarthritis. It is powered by robotic arm technology, enabling the surgeon to precisely resurface only the arthritic portion, while preserving healthy tissue and bone. Patients who desire a restorative lifestyle, minimized surgery, reduced pain and rapid recovery may benefit from MAKOplasty.

Although the arrangement with the Alliance Community was initially designed to accommodate patients who travel from out-of-town to undergo the Makoplasty® robotic partial knee replacement, it is available to any interested patient, regardless of procedure received.

Florida Hospital DeLand is the only Orthopaedic Center of Excellence in the area and has been nationally recognized for ranking in the top 10 percent for quality in joint replacement surgery. The facility has also earned the prestigious Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™, Disease-Specific Care Certification in Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement Surgery.
