The trail-run style course is a 5K course including obstacles and many opportunities to get wet and muddy. In 2012, Kalamazoo Community Church (KCC) came up with the idea of converting the trails that wind through the 44 wooded acres surrounding the church into a challenging mud and obstacle course. The event is part of the church’s ongoing mission to support sustainable well drilling operations in Africa. To date, more than $70,000 has been provided for clean water initiatives in Uganda. And this year, the Kalamazoo Mud Run is teaming up with ActiveWater, a Kalamazoo-based nonprofit, to provide freshwater wells to a village in Zambia.
ActiveWater co-founder, Daren Wendell, says “We couldn’t be happier about this partnership!
The race will also continue to benefit local missions by supporting the mobile food mission of Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes. Runners can bring their can goods and nonperishable foods to the church on the day of the race or at packet pickup.
