DALLAS - Jan. 27, 2014 - PRLog -- Initially created as a means to challenge their artists and fast-track artist development, Supreme and JClay of the Hip Hop duo, 1st and also co-founders of indie record label, The Slip Records, were committed to their Go Wit It Monday Cypher series from the start. Now 52 consecutive weeks running and One year’s worth of content, the series is celebrating its one year anniversary Monday, January 27th, 2014.

“If you’re a rapper, then you need to show that you can rap well at any time,” said The Slip Records Co-Founder, JClay. “With the cyphers, our artists have the opportunity to show the world week after week why we’re the best underground and soon-to-be mainstream record label.”

In only one year’s time, the series has received recognition from blogs across the United States, this being achieved with only grassroots promotion and no paid placements. Bloggers of underground Hip Hop have raved about the quality of the talent featured in the cyphers every week.

“People love to see who’s making the music,” said The Slip Records other Co-Founder, Supreme. “Blog moderators are consumers of music too so when they see [the cyphers] it’s just as appealing to them [as with fans].”

The cyphers also represent the genuine feel of the old school cyphers that would take place on a neighborhood corner or in the hallway of a building. Although the artists do have the opportunity for extra takes in filming if there’s car noises, strong winds, or loud bystanders, the cyphers are never scripted.

“We try to give the real raw and uncut experience,” said JClay. “No offense to others out there, but I’ve seen videos titled as cyphers yet it’s filmed like a music video. They use a pre-recorded track and they show the emcees rapping the same verse in different settings. To me, that’s not a cypher, that’s a performance-style music video.”

The Go Wit It Monday cyphers will continue to be featured each week and The Slip Records looks forward to celebrating over 100 consecutive weeks next year.
