World Class Cinema comes to Eumundi

Eumundi World Cinema is a new film club for grown-ups based on the Sunshine Coast aiming to take you around the world one movie at a time. Screening monthly, and packed with award winning feature films and shorts, it aims to promote cultural awareness and understanding but above all to entertain in a lively social environment.

‘Movie tragics’ throughout the coast will be exposed to a fine selection of drama, romance and comedy from the Americas, Europe, Scandinavia, the Middle East, India and Asia.  A Classic Movie Night and an Australian Movie Night will also feature during the 11 month season, which commences 12 February. Movies are shown on a large indoor screen with equipment supplied by Trent Harvison of ‘Starry Night Outdoor Movies’.

To make the night more of an ‘experience’ than ‘just a movie’, there will be decorations and food from the movies’ region, and we hope members will get into the spirit of the night by “dressing up” in the clothing of the area or period. The December French preview launch featured a glittering Eiffel Tower (courtesy of Lisa Williment of ‘Partee Petite’), French treats and cheeses, champagne and a host of berets and striped tops.

For an individual membership of $60, and a minimum age of 18, members will enjoy 11 feature length international movies and 22 shorts from a different region each month and have the opportunity to vote for the following month’s feature. You can join at http:/www.eumundiworldcinema.com/join

For a $5 donation at the door, a light supper will be served, including tea and coffee - BYO alcohol and glasses.

The February feature from Italy, chosen by members, is the multi-award winning “Ladri di biciclette” (Bicycle Thieves). Also known as The Bicycle Thief, the black and white neorealist film is a work of outstanding artistry from director Vittorio de Sica.

Released in 1948 the film portrays the poverty and desperation of a father searching for his stolen bicycle and provides an unforgettable picture of post-war Italy.
