Follow on Google News | Sex know-how at your fingertipsWith the launch of a new responsive Love Matters website, young Indians can now access all the info they need about love, sex and relationships on their mobile phones.
By: Love matters “We figured that over 50 percent of our audience was coming to our site via mobile phones. In a country like India, where traditional internet connections are weak, mobile phones are helping people connect to the web. We wanted to capitalise on this potential and offer our services in the best way we can to our audience,” says Vithika Yadav, Head of Love Matters India. Award-winning The website, which began in 2011, receives over 4.5 lakh visitors to its Hindi and English sites every month and has over 2 lakh Facebook fans. In 2013 the online portal, which is run by RNW (Radio Netherlands Worldwide), won the ‘Excellence in Innovation’ award from the World Association of Sexual Health (WAS). “Two years ago, we saw the lack of information about sexual health and relationships in Hindi and so we decided to have our website in Hindi,” Yadav says, adding, “The response has been overwhelming and we are more confident than ever about increasing our reach…” Love Matters is currently available in five languages – English, Hindi, Chinese, Arabic and Spanish – in Africa, India, China, the Middle East and Latin America. “When we started Love Matters in India, we never imagined it would be such a success. We are so proud that we’ve expanded to so many different regions,” says Michele Ernsting, head of all Love Matters projects. Young themes The new responsive site available in Hindi and English provides Love and Sex tips as well as quotes on Love. Creators say navigation within the site has also improved with the new look and fresh design. Marking the re-launch of the website, Love Matters is partnering with the United Nations Family Planning Association (UNFPA) on a month-long campaign ‘My Health, My Choices.’ As part of this campaign, the website is providing engaging information on four weekly themes: contraception, first-time sex, sexual harassment and relationships.
