FAIRBORN, Ohio - Jan. 22, 2014 - PRLog -- FAIRBORN, Ohio – On the day the nation celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday, BLACK STUDIES ONLINE will begin its operation in offering college-level African American Studies courses to the general public.  Black Studies Online (BSO) was created to fill the void in online educational programs by providing courses that deal directly with the history, culture, and contemporary experiences of African Americans.

“We are the first program of its kind in the digital marketplace,” says Founder and CEO Dr. Erin H. Moore.  “Market research indicates that African Americans are not satisfied with the availability of culturally specific, intellectually challenging, and stimulating content available on the internet.  Black Studies Online fits that need.”  Black Studies Online creates a space within the online educational community that addresses the specific cultural and intellectual needs of the African American consumer.

Unlike other online course platforms that focus primarily on business, science, and technology, Black Studies Online provides educational content that focuses solely on the Black experience.  Courses cover a range of subject matter, from exploring Africa’s cultural legacy, to the various roles African Americans played in creating the United States, to analysis of the vexing contemporary issues confronting the Black community.  BSO delivers a comprehensive educational experience outside of the classroom for members of the public interested in not only learning about Black culture, but seeking ways to address the needs and specific concerns of the community in an online platform.

Unique to other online programs, Black Studies Online offers two options from which students can choose to take courses – the Instructor-Led and Self-Directed Options.  The Instructor-Led Option was created to promote the healthy and lively exchange of ideas.  With this option, BSO offers a robust interactive experience that includes engaging course content, classroom discussions with fellow students, and live webinars with instructors.  For those consumers who prefer to learn on their own, BSO also offers the Self-Directed Option, where students can take courses on their own time at their own pace.  All courses are taught by college professors, and BSO will be adding a continuing roster of dynamic courses throughout the year.

Although Black Studies Online is a new company, its founder, Dr. Erin H. Moore, has a well-established track record within the discipline of African American Studies.  She has over 20 years of experience as a professor, researcher, and community educator.  In addition, she has an extensive background in strategic marketing and project management, in both the telecommunications and non-profit sectors.  Her combined expertise in African American Studies, technology, and business management makes her ideally positioned to serve as the vanguard of a new approach to serving the African American consumer in an exceptional way.  Dr. Moore is excited to leverage her educational expertise and market knowledge by providing tremendous value to her student body.

Black Studies Online is committed to serving the community by providing top notch college-level instruction at an affordable price.  Instructor-Led Courses are only $25 a week, while Self-Directed Courses are only $5 a week.  Courses are offered throughout the year in terms lasting 10-weeks each.
