Government Officials Spending Tax Payers Money for Limo Service & Comparing Chicago Officials

CHICAGO - Jan. 22, 2014 - PRLog -- January 22, 2014 - A little bit of “Limo News” in the Republic of Cyprus (Greece) has been brought to our attention lately. There has been an issue regarding Government Officials using hard earned taxpayer money to pay for round-the-clock unlimited limo service (http://www.viplimousineinc.com/).  A law has been passed to limit this allowance.  However, the limits have not been exactly set.  Maybe they’re avoiding making the change due to their unwillingness to sacrifice their own comfort?

These State and Public officials include but are not limited to:  the President of the Republic, the House Speaker, the chief justice of the Supreme Court, the Attorney-general, the deputy Attorney-general and the auditor-general.  Some more officials that can still receive 24-hour unlimited private limousine service are all former Presidents of the Republic and House Speakers. However, they are not eligible if they did not service for over 30 months.  Oh, now there’s a great point!  (note the sarcasm here).

It is so rare that a President of the Republic or House Speaker serves less than 30 months that this is actually pretty hilarious and pathetic.  Why should any of these members have to have 24-hour round the clock limousine service (http://www.viplimousineinc.com/)?  This means they could use the limousines for anything they want, including personal trips and entertainment.  Now, as much as this is GREAT for limousine services, this is TERRIBLE for their Citizens!

“Other state officials will continue enjoying the limo perk, but their travel in luxury vehicles will be limited to ‘official use’. They will be chauffeured around not to go to work, but to official functions only.  Such officials include ministers, commissioners, mayors and bosses at semi-state enterprises.  The restrictions on use of limos by these officials are to be fleshed out by the government.” (Source:  http://cyprus-mail.com/2014/01/17/house-passes-law-limiting-the-use-of-limos-to-a-handful-of-state-and-public-officials/ by Elias Hazou)  Still, why on God’s Earth would this be considered something these officials need, even if it’s to an office function?  Technically, government officials can easily deem anything they want an “official function.”  They can call a dinner an “official function.”   Who really checks up on these government officials anyways?

The limits haven’t been set. Even when they will be set, the law won’t be taking effect in the Republic of Cypress until July 1st.  They are doing everything possible avoiding making concrete decisions regarding this new “Law.”  What a funny picture:  These Government Officials meeting and pointing fingers at each other: “You don’t get to ride in a limo because” Blah Blah Blah….  Really? How sad that they can throw around our hard-earned money in such a careless fashion.

Now, here’s a little something that can make Chicagoans and other countries and cities proud: “The following officials (named below) ride the bus or the train as a matter of course; they suffer no abuse. Some of them craft policies that move public transit riders with safety and civility. All of them save taxpayer money and earn the grudging respect of the citizens they serve. Dayao)”

Here are those Named officials:

·         Rahm Emanuel
Mayor, Chicago City

·         François Hollande
President, France

·         Chadchart Sittipunt
Transport minister, Thailand

·         David Cameron
Prime Minister, United Kingdom

·         Marpadi Veerappa Moily
Oil minister, India

So, if these important government officials actually put the people first and save them money by taking public transportation, what’s so different with government officials in Cypress?  Are they “too good” to take transportation that Regular ‘ole folks take? As much as sometimes the American people like to complain about their government, it’s pretty impressive that our Mayor in the City of Chicago does take public transportation.  Limos in Chicago (http://www.viplimousineinc.com/) are a LUXURY and should be used for entertainment and important life events such as Weddings (http://www.viplimousineinc.com/#!weddings/cee5), Quinceaneras (http://www.viplimousineinc.com/#!quinceanera/cl3q), Bachelor(ette) Parties (http://www.viplimousineinc.com/#!bachelor-bachelorette/c1y2v),  Anniversaries (http://www.viplimousineinc.com/#!anniversary/c1vwv), Chicago Proms (http://www.viplimousineinc.com/#!prom/cvzz), etc.  NOT as a mode of transportation for government officials to use at their leisure 24 hours a day.  Our Mayor understands that.  Now, here’s something we can be proud of!
