Col. Tom Brewer Supports Congressional Select Committee on Benghazi
Urges Rep. Adrian Smith to Support House Resolution; Served with Navy SEAL Killed in Attack
By: Tom Brewer for Congress
“I am deeply troubled that Congressman Smith is not supporting the family members who are calling for additional investigation by cosponsoring House Resolution 36 supported by 181 of his colleagues including Congressmen Jeff Fortenberry and Lee Terry. HR 36 would establish an Independent Select Committee to finally get to the bottom of this tangled web of lies and deceit,” Brewer said.
“It’s been over 16 months since the tragedy at our consulate in Benghazi where four brave Americans were murdered by Al-Qaida-linked Islamic terrorists including my friend, Glen Doherty. Key facts about this disaster are still unknown,” Brewer said.
Family members of the murdered victims have asked Speaker of the House John Boehner for a more detailed investigation into the murders of U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stephens, Foreign Information Officer, Sean Smith and Security Officers, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty. Doherty, a Navy SEAL and Embassy security guard, served in Afghanistan with Brewer.
“At every turn the administration has stonewalled congress and prevented the truth from being discovered. An Independent Select Committee would have subpoena power and the authority to read classified documents,” Brewer said.
“People need to be held accountable for this disaster. We need to prevent it from ever happening again and we cannot do that without the truth,” Brewer said.
According to Congress.gov, HR 36 has 181 cosponsors including Rep. Jeff Fortenberry and Rep. Lee Terry, but does not include Rep. Adrian Smith.
“The family members of the Benghazi victims and many other Americans are frustrated by lack of true leadership from Speaker Boehner concerning this tragedy. Nebraskans should know that Congressman Smith is also failing to lead. It is a blatant insult to the family members of Stevens, Smith, Woods and my friend Glen Doherty. It’s time for action.”
