State of Colorado Presents Bidding Opportunities and Business Financing Tools at IECRM in Denver

DENVER - Jan. 21, 2014 - PRLog -- DENVER, Colorado -- January 21, 2014 -- At “The State of the Economy for the Colorado Construction Industry,” a panel discussion hosted by IECRM on January 14th, representatives from the State of Colorado (www.colorado.gov/dpa and www.advancecolorado.com) and Adams County Economic Development (www.adamscountyed.com) presented Colorado business owners with tips, tools, and resources available for companies interested in bidding on state construction and design projects. The audience included electrical contractors, engineering firms, and industry businesses, and the discussion was moderated by Colorado Business Bank (www.cobizbank.com) and Bauerle and Company, P.C. (www.bcdenver.com).

Contractors interested in bidding on state construction projects are encouraged to register at Colorado BIDS (www.bidscolorado.com), where they can view and receive alerts on open bids, current bids, and awarded bids listed by the State of Colorado. David Musgrave, Supplier Diversity Liaison at the Colorado Division of Finance and Procurement, recommends that electrical contractors search the Colorado BIDS System for subcontracting opportunities for larger projects, and to view short lists for specialties such as electrical workers.

Small, minority, and women-owned businesses are encouraged to apply for the Unified Certification Program in order to achieve DBE (Disadvantaged Business Enterprise) status with CDOT and the City of Denver. Jessica Erickson, Senior Business Development Manager at the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, gave an overview of debt and equity financing, cash incentives, grants, and tax credits that the State makes available on its website: www.advancecolorado.com/funding-incentives/financing.

Erin Beckstein, Director of Business Marketing and Communications at Adams County Economic Development, encouraged business owners to check if they are eligible for one of ten Enterprise Zone tax credits at www.advancecolorado.com/ez.

“It is clear that the Colorado construction industry is a rising star. The State of Colorado’s Office of Economic Development predicts that we should experience around a 7% growth in 2014,” said Kristin Kim Haynes, IECRM Director of Operations. “IECRM is excited to do our part to recruit, educate, and develop the industry.”
