Jan. 21, 2014 - PRLog -- 2014 is off to a bright start for JMC Electrical Contractor (http://www.jmcelectricllc.com/home.htm), LLC CEO and Owner Mashell Carissimi, who is receiving the National Association of Women Business Owners Greater Detroit Chapter (http://nawbogdc.org/index.php)’s Top 10 Michigan Business Women Up-And-Coming Award and an Honorable Mention for Enterprising Women (http://enterprisingwomen.com/)’s Enterprising Women of the Year Award.

JMC Electrical Contractor, LLC, is a union electrical contracting firm providing commercial, industrial, and institutional electrical services.  The company started in Carissimi’s basement in June 2010.  With just two employees, Carissimi and her husband, a master electrician, the company secured a contract to provide services to a local casino.  Nearly four years later, the company has since moved up from the basement to a building all its own, hired two full-time employees as well as several union electricians, doubled its sales from the previous year in 2012 and 2013.

“When I started JMC Electrical Contractor, LLC in my basement less than four years ago, my goal was to run a viable union electrical contracting firm, provide my family with financial stability as well as provide employment opportunities for others and give back to the community,” Carissimi explains. “The success of the company is a product of a great deal of hard work, and I am humbled and honored by accolades such as these.”

2014 marks the 20th year NAWBO is recognizing and honoring women from the Detroit area who make a difference. The Top 10 Up-And-Coming Award recognizes emerging and promising woman business owners who have owned their business five years or less. The award recipients will be recognized at NAWBO’s annual award dinner, held this year on March 13, at Laurel Manor in Livonia.

Honorable Mention recipients for the 2014 Enterprising Women of the Year Awards will be recognized at the Enterprising Women’s Women of the Year Awards Celebration and Conference held March 2 - 4, in Sarasota, Fla. 2014 marks the 12th year for the annual Enterprising Women of the Year Awards, widely considered one of the most prestigious recognition programs for women business owners. To receive recognition, nominees must demonstrate that they have fast-growth businesses, mentor or actively support other women and girls involved in entrepreneurship, and stand out as leaders in their communities. Many of the honorees also serve as leaders of key organizations that promote the growth of women’s entrepreneurship.

A native of Michigan, Carissimi received a Bachelor of Administration, majoring in accounting, from Baker College in Flint, Mich., in 1998; and four years later she received an MBA majoring in industrial management and human resources management, all while working full time.

Through JMC, Carissimi has donated lighting fixtures and electricians to provide safe and secure lighting to light the warehouse of a local charity, Back Alley Bikes. At the holidays, JMC sends Charity Gift Certificates in lieu of traditional gift baskets to loyal clients and business associates. These certificates allow recipients to donate the funds to the charity of their choice.  To date, recipients have redeemed these certificates at such great charities as the United Negro College Fund, Boys Club of America, and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Carissimi looks forward to continued growth and the ability to provide many more employment opportunities.  She also looks forward to the possibilities of increasing her ability to give back to her community.
