La Mimosa Art Launches Latest Installement of The Display, Rebirth

NEW YORK - Jan. 21, 2014 - PRLog -- New York, NY – January 21, 2014 - La Mimosa Art is pleased to announce the latest art showcase of The Display, REBIRTH, on January 25, 2014 (6:30pm – 10pm) at The White Space, 587 10th Avenue in New York City.

Established in 2013 by Mima of La Mimosa Art, The Display is a collaboration of emerging and established Hispanic artists, hosting quarterly multi-faceted showcases in New York City featuring original pieces ranging from canvas and woodworks to live performances, photography, mixed media art, and live action painting.  REBIRTH is the latest exhibit, showcasing various artwork (visual, performance and culinary) inspired and based on the Yoruba traditions, cultures and spiritual journeys.

“We’re thrilled that The Display is growing and establishing itself as a legitimate community for artists, providing each other with resources, inspiration and the support required to grow and move forward in an industry that can be overwhelming,” says Carolyn “Mima” Texidor, artist of La Mimosa Art and founder of The Display. “I’m especially excited about this latest installment, REBIRTH, as Yoruba Art, culture and spirituality is a subject matter close to my heart and an inspiration for a lot of my work.”

The talented artists displaying their work at REBIRTH include:

·      Visual artist and poet Indio Melendez, a native Nuyorican actor, writer and Veteran born in Brooklyn. A self taught Artist, Indio began his work about ten years ago as a hobby, burning Yoruba designs into reclaimed pieces of wood into dynamic art inspired by his love for the Yoruba pantheon.

·      Visual artist and poet Tamara G. Saliva, a native New Yorker by way of Brooklyn. She is a self-published author and aspiring artist, working primarily with acrylic Tamara uses a variety of material and imagination to then transfer to the canvas.

·         Visual artist and musician Odalys Salina was born and raised in Cuba, studying classical guitar at the school El Cucalambé. Odalys has a very deep bond between her spiritual search, her music and her paintings; creating pieces using pinpoint.

·         Visual artist Milagros Martinez, a second generation Puerto Rican, does not paint on large canvases, but she does have a unique artistic style; bead maker of traditional Yoruba artwork.  Milagros comes from a long line of art inspired family and a passion to create beautiful, meaningful work.

·         Performing artist Tony Yemaya is a multi-talented and versatile artist, excelling in dance, singing, acting and choreography. Tony continues to expand his repertoire as a freelance artist as a choreographer for Orisha Dances and Mambo.

·         Culinary artist Joel “El Cangri” Rosado has had a curiosity of cooking, and all it entails, since childhood and became interested in dishes of the Yoruba tradition as he explored his spiritual beliefs.

The first show by The Display launched in April 2013 at an intimate venue in Washington Heights, NY. As the word spread, the second show moved to a larger venue downtown at the Nuyorican Poets Café in July 2013.
