LOS ANGELES - Jan. 17, 2014 - PRLog -- Welcome to AN EVENING OF CHAMPIONS" UNSUNG HEROES AWARDS BLACK TIE GALA in COMMEMORATION of DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. Some of Los Angeles' top academic and athletic achievers will be recognized. The Inner City Youth Foundation will host it's 22nd Annual Dr. Martin L. King Jr. commemorative affair on Saturday January 18, 2014  that will honor a stellar youth for their outstanding service and commitment to their communities, Academics and Sports inspired by Running back Jeffrey J.Coprich Jr. a sophmore at the University of California Berkeley.

The Unsung Heroes Awards seek to spotlight student scholars who are not only excelling in the classroom, but in their respective sports and volunteerism, as well. Students are chosen based on their unweighted grade point averages, character letters of recommendation, community service and personal narratives.

Congresswoman Maxine Waters will serve as our Keynote Speaker and our Host Master of Ceremonies will be Actor Rodney V. Johnson Co-Star "Raising Whitley" on the OWN Network. There will also be special presentations by American Idol's Jacob Lusk and SCLC of Southern California President Rev. William Smart Jr.

The mission of the Inner City Youth Foundation and the L.A. Inner City Mass Choir is to promote safe, healthy, and non-violent environments by uniting African American and Hispanic at-risk youth residing in socially deprived areas of Los Angeles County. The Inner City Youth Foundation supports and provides programs and services in the arts, music, entertainment, self-esteem, character building, community service, and mentoring, The foundation also provides a Literacy Education Program through The Essence K. Coprich Library/Book Club Project founded by Jeffrey J.Coprich Jr. University of California Berkeley.
