Cerritos College Launches One Semester Esthetician Program
Cerritos College Cosmetology program offers a new one semester Esthetician Program. In 18 weeks, the 25 students in the Introductory Esthetician course, COS 54, will learn to work on all client procedures and will prepare for careers in Esthetics.
In the classroom, students will learn how to perform a facial, the different types of facial massage, different massage techniques, and what type of skin each technique is best used for, electrical modalities, microdermabrasion, chemical exfoliants, waxing and hair removal procedures, makeup applications. Students also learn theories of skin, histology, physiology, chemistry, bacteriology, nutrition, and anatomy.
The Esthetician Program is a Dermalogica Partnership School. Their experts from the International Dermal Institute teach world renowned classes to our students. In addition to the classroom training, Esthetician students are also provided hands-on experience in the Cerritos College Salon. The salon is open to the public and is operated as a professional salon.
“Students working with clients is very exciting, it gives the students the opportunity to practice their practical and communication skills on the public. This prepares them for their future career. Also, having the esthetician program one semester provides the students the opportunity to start their career faster,” said Esthetician Instructor, Madeline Bettencourt.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
The Cerritos College Cosmetology Program’s mission is to prepare students for a career. Cerritos College offers Cosmetology and Esthetician programs. The Cosmetology program provides students with the skills to cut, color, perm, straighten, and braid hair, manicure, pedicure, and skin care as well as other applications and techniques. Students in the Esthetician program learn how to analyze skin, perform facials, massages, extractions, make-up, and how to treat skin.
The Cerritos College Cosmetology Program consists of 1600 clocked hours, of which 75% is spent performing hands-on applications. The Esthetician Program consists of 600 clocked hours, of which 75% is spent performing hands-on applications. The program also houses a salon which is open to the public and prepares students for their career by providing real life training.
