NEW YORK - Jan. 17, 2014 - PRLog -- New York, NY – January 17, 2014 – History is being recorded in real-time by a team of 5 adventurers on an expedition through Central and South America.

Expedition leader Amanda Brown, an international photographer and explorer is leading a team of experts through five countries. “When my team came together at the end of last year, I knew that I had gathered incredible experts who could assist me in exploring unchartered territories, history and adventures that await in each of the countries,” said Amanda while discussing her teammates Stephanie Jolluck of Coleccion Luna, Drew Bristow of Explore Trees, Guy Brooksbank of Handheld Stories and Gary Humphrey of Discovery’s “Car vs. Wild.” During the 7-month timeframe, each team member will join her in a country.

The countries being visited and the topics explored are:

GUATEMALA: Social Entrepreneurship, Empowering Women, Alleviating Poverty

Awarded social entrepreneur, Stephanie Jolluck, recipient of the Spanx & Sara Blakely “Leg Up” due to her work with indigenous Mayan Indian artists of Guatemala, will be guiding the expedition through the countryside. Documentation through photographs by Amanda will be included in a museum exhibit of famed art collector Bill Arnett’s antique Guatemalan textiles curated by Stephanie and set to travel through select museums in 2015.

CHILE: Environmental Research, Conservation, Adventure Sports, Climbing, First in Exploration

One of the top tree climbers in the world, Drew Bristow, will be leading the team to the unexplored upper canopies of the Alerce trees of Chile’s Valdivian rainforest for environmental cataloguing in hopes of preserving the Alerce tree that is 3,500+ years old. This has never been done before, much less documented for the world to see. Shown through the eyes of two people with totally different abilities, Drew the climbing expert and the first-time climber Amanda, the pair will show the fear and awe that comes from entering a realm 197’ above the ground, the micro-colonies that grow in ancient trees, and the pure amazement from being at such heights and seeing a once invisible world.

ARGENTINA: Education, Social Documentary

This portion of the expedition will be like viewing the movie “Slumdog Millionaire” in real-life. Over the 30-day project Amanda and the Handheld Stories team will be in the slums of Buenos Aires documenting children as they are chosen, given camera and computer equipment, learn how to document their story, edit the footage and share it on social media platforms. This will give the perspective from a child’s view of poverty, justice and opportunity. This is a legacy project and the equipment used will remain with the community for the children to teach others the skills learned during the project.

COSTA RICA: Survival Skills, Adventure Sports, Couple Travel & Vacations

Survival skills will be put to the test as Gary Humphrey, former British Special Forces soldier and host of Discovery’s “Car vs. Wild,” explore the rainforest and countryside of Costa Rica. Gary will be testing Amanda’s boundaries as he takes her on an adventure a day showing her how to do everything from surviving in the jungle to free diving. The educational benefit for adventure travelers who need to learn how to survive in all climates and in all circumstances will be shown in an entertaining format as Gary and Amanda tell the daily stories through pictures, videos and writing whilst sharing their perspective from a male and female perspective.

“The vistas we will experience, the pictures we will take, the new regions that we will explore, the opportunity to be part of making history - my team and I are providing the material that will create a ripple effect in multiple ways. We are looking forward to starting our expedition and sharing what we find with the world,” Amanda mentioned when speaking with organizations and sponsors.

The Sponsors who have joined to date to help make the expedition possible include: Act Safe, Laser Tech, Polar, Hennessy Hammocks, Solar Joos, Railriders Adventure Clothing, Tree Stuff, Yale Cordage and Arc’teryx.

The experience, the stories, the pictures and the videos will be shared daily by the team members at  www.AmandasBigWorldAdventure.com and is free for all to view worldwide.
