If not handled properly, simply returning a call from your cell phone could result in a rather large cell phone bill.

In the last two weeks, multiple instances have been reported to the Better Business Bureau where callers from the area codes of 809, 876, 284, or 473 vicinities will place a call to a cell phone and hang up immediately before the call is answered.  The cell phone owner will then return the call to find out who called resulting in a third-party unauthorized charge of $19.95 or more.  This cell phone tactic is known as "cramming" and takes advantage of the common practice of returning missed calls found on a cell phone caller ID. However, cell phone users should be warned that not every call to a cell phone from the 809, 875, 284, or 473 is necessarily a scam. Therefore, great care and research should be conducted before returning a call from an unrecognized phone number. Cell phone users should be wary of any calls coming from a phone number that is unrecognized or perform a people search (http://www.netsearch411.com) or reverse phone search on the internet before returning the call.  The Better Business Bureau recommends if you do not recognize a phone number received on your cell phone caller ID, you should ignore it and do not call back.  As well, if you see unauthorized charges on your cell phone bill, inform your carrier immediately and you may be able to have these charges removed.
