Texas Insurance Companies Provide Discount for Customers Who Take Drug and Alcohol Awareness Courses
Texas insurance companies are now required to offer a 5% discount on car insurance premiums, for customers who voluntarily take a Texas Education Agency (TEA)-approved drug and alcohol awareness course.
This promotion comes at an especially relevant time. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, it is estimated that someone is hurt or killed in an alcohol-related accident every 20 minutes.
The high numbers of alcohol related accidents shows the need for increased awareness, and perhaps stiffer penalties, to help curb the prevalence of alcohol related accidents.
“Drinking and driving can be costly,” states the DMV website, “Not only to your safety but to your wallet. DWI convictions can increase your car insurance rates. The best way to avoid this is not to drink and drive.”
With the cost of living becoming increasingly higher, consumers who are looking to save may be able to see the financial benefits of taking a drug and alcohol awareness course.
The DMV reminds motorists of eligibility requirements for the 5% discount. For motorists who are convicted of a drug or alcohol-related charge in the past 7 years are not eligible for the 5% discount. Convicted motorists become eligible for the discount after 7 years has passed since their conviction.
“Staying safe can not only keep your car insurance premiums from rising; it can help you find affordable insurance from the start,” the DMV reminds. “Get a quote on car insurance today and see how much you can save.”
