The Nature Place Day Camp Announces Free Events and Open Houses for Families in 2014

By: The Nature Place

Jan. 14, 2014 - PRLog -- Chestnut Ridge, N.Y. – Beginning on January 18, The Nature Place Day Camp is inviting families to join them for fun, free, hands-on events showcasing some of the experiences offered during summer camp.

·         Winter Tales with Chuck Stead – Saturday, January 18, 11 am – Noon

The Nature Place’s magnetic storyteller, Chuck Stead, spins tales of winter, wonder and surprise rooted in Rockland County’s Ramapo Mountains.

·         Outragehisss  Pets – Saturday,  February 1,
11 am – Noon

Lizards, foxes, chinchillas, toads, spiders, hedgehogs, snakes, sugar gliders, armadillos, oh my! Outragehisss Pets will bring a menagerie of beasts for us see, learn about, and if we're feeling brave, hold or touch!

·         Maple Sugaring – Saturday,  March 1,
11 am – Noon

Tap maple trees, boil sap over a fire, and then, over crushed ice and accompanied by a dill pickle, taste that amber aristocrat of all sweets - maple syrup.

·         Play Games! – Saturday, April 19,
11am – Noon

We play games that are cooperative rather than competitive, which means we all have fun, play hard, play fair, usually laugh a lot, and everyone gets included. Join us as we play some of the games we love to play at camp.

·         Spring Peeper Hunt – Saturday, May 3,
7:30 – 8:45 pm

Come 'hunt' the harbingers of spring with The Nature Place as we tromp through the swamp at dusk, using our ears to find these tiny but very loud frogs. No nets or other 'hunting' gear required, only a sharp ear, a quiet footfall, patience, and a decent pair of boots.

All the above events are free and no RSVP is required.  Events are hands-on and mostly outdoors so dress accordingly (and make sure to wear boots for the Spring Peeper Hunt).

Events will be followed by an open house, from 1- 4pm (except for our Spring Peeper Hunt which is preceded by one). This includes a tour of the Nature Place Day Camp as well as a slide show from past summers.

The Nature Place is a non-competitive and nature-oriented day camp for children ages 4-16.  Located on 200 acres in Rockland County, campers connect with each other as well as the earth through hands-on, pressure-free programming.
