The 2014 Chevy Corvette and Silverado Win North American Car and Truck of the Year

While there are numerous automotive awards given out ever year, these top two at the North American International Auto Show are the equivalent to the Oscars or the Grammy Awards for cars. Awards are chosen by a group panel consisting of 48 well-respected critics.

The Chevrolet brand has never before won both awards in the same year. General Motors as a whole, however, did once sweep both categories. Back in 2007, the Silverado picked up Truck of the Year while the Saturn Aura won the award for Car of the Year. 2010 was the last year an automaker took both categories when Ford won for the Transit Connect and Fusion Hybrid.

This year’s 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray achieved success by taking inspiration from classic Corvette models and adding a dash of modern inspiration. It’s already been quite successful with critics as well, being named Automobile of the Year by Automobile Magazine.

The 2014 Corvette features better interior with more luxury features in the past. This is accompanied by impressive performance in the form of a sleek, aerodynamic body and a powerful engine capable of 455 hp. Compared to other high-performance models, the Corvette succeeds with similar performance, higher fuel economy, and a lower price of  $51,000.

As the top seller for Chevy and General Motors, the win for the redesigned 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 is even more important than the Corvette. Chevy sold 480,000 Silverado pickups in 2013, twice that of its number two best-seller: the Chevy Cruze. The automaker managed to improve it new generation model with tougher performance, better fuel economy, and modern features.
