Beryllium & Chronic Beryllium Disease Discussed in New Online Video
The IAQ Video Network releases another educational video about important environmental, health & safety (EH&S) issues.
Beryllium is a chemical element with the symbol Be and atomic number 4. It is extremely lightweight and hard, is a good conductor of electricity and heat and is nonmagnetic. These properties make beryllium suitable for many industrial uses.
“Exposure to beryllium can happen when a person breathes in beryllium mists, dusts or fumes in one of the many industries that use this important element,”reports Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates, the company behind the IAQ Video Network and the new public outreach video. “Beryllium disease is caused primarily by breathing contaminated air. Both acute and chronic health problems can occur. The acute disease starts soon after exposure and resembles pneumonia or bronchitis. The chronic form of the condition, known as Chronic Beryllium Disease or CBD, may occur from several months to decades after exposure. We hope this video helps to shed some light on this topic.”
This educational video was sponsored by a number of organizations and leading industry professionals that help to protect the public’s health. Sponsors include: EMSL Analytical, LA Testing, Mold Solutions, Clark Seif Clark, Zimmetry Environmental and Healthy Indoors magazine to name a few.
