Millbrook, AL Lady Turns Layoff Into Golden Opportunity to Create Montgomery Maid Service Powerhouse
Jennifer Burr was laid off from Colonial Bank after they were purchased by BB&T during the economic downturn. She did not see the circumstance as a setback but became inventive and created one of Montgomery, Alabama's leading maid services.
By: Spotless, LLC
In 2009 Colonial Bank was sold to BB&T. Jennifer was left unemployed in the middle of the country's job crisis. She and her husband had dreamed to have children and allow Jennifer to be a stay at home mom. However, the family's finances were not ready for that move.
The couple decided to start a business with the idea that it would become self-sustaining and provide a second income while allowing Jennifer to be a stay at home mother. The problem was that the family had no capital to invest in a business. So, they were forced to think of a business plan that required little to no capital. The solution was a maid/housecleaning service.
The startup inventory included the cleaning supplies that were in the family pantry and the gas that was in Jennifer's Hyundai Elantra. The business needed a name, and Jennifer decided upon Spotless. With Zackery being an attorney, the decision was made to form the business into an LLC. So, Spotless, LLC was formed, but the company needed customers.
With little capital, Spotless, LLC couldn't launch an expensive marketing blitz. So, at first ads were placed on craigslist. The couple went door to door in the River Region subdivisions and passed out hundreds of fliars. Jennifer created a low cost website using Intuit, http://www.spotlessmontgomery.com.
Slowly but surely the business began to grow. Spotless's search engine optimazition strengthened and potential customers loved the wealth of information available throughout the website ( http://www.spotlessmontgomery.com/
For over a year, Spotless operated out of Jennifer's home. As the business began to prosper, Jennifer opened up an office in Millbrook, AL. She now has over a handful of employees and a trusted general manager.
On November 14, 2013, Jennifer and Zackery welcomed their first child into the world, Henry Alexander. Jennifer is able to live her dream of staying at home with Henry and manages the executive aspects of Spotless from her house, while her team of employees maintain the day to day operations of the thriving company.
Jennifer contributes Spotless's success to a hard work ethic and a sound business model. Our lives seem to become filled with more and more responsibilities year by year. Spotless is there to take one of those responsibilities away by offering housecleaning services that are tailored to each family's needs. The company does not use a set checklist or set products. If you want certain parts of your house cleaned and others left alone, Spotless will gladly accommodate your wishes. If you have allergies to certain chemicals, Spotless will find an alternative solution to cleaning your home.
One hesistancy that people have with a maid service is security. That is why from Spotless's foundation Jennifer began having each of Spotless's employees screened through a fingerprint-
In addition to housecleaing, Spoltess offers professional carpet cleaning ( http://www.spotlessmontgomery.com/
