Gilbert Sister Cities Helps Kids in Leshan China

GILBERT, Ariz. - Jan. 7, 2014 - PRLog -- Gilbert Sister Cities celebrates a successful book drive.  The Val Vista Lakes Elementary School organized a book drive for delivery over the summer to one of Gilbert’s Sister Cities, Leshan China.  Over one hundred books were collected, thanks to the generous donations from the community supporting both Val Vista Lakes Elementary School and Gilbert Sister Cities.

The books were taken overseas by Gilbert Sister City exchange students Hunter Henderson and Staci Allen who presented the Leshan library with the donations from the Vikings of Val Vista Lakes Elementary.  “The library was able to open an English section filled with the donated books, most of them for kids,” commented Mrs. Suzanne Lunt, the Gilbert Sister Cities board member responsible for working with the Val Vista Lakes student council and Mrs. Norton from the school.  “This is the first time that this library has had any books printed in English and they want to start a new ‘tradition’ of books being brought to the library,” Mrs. Lunt added.

Gilbert Sister Cities is a community supported, non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to promoting cultural understanding and stimulating economic development opportunities for the youth, adults, businesses and organizations of the Town of Gilbert through mutually beneficial international partnerships.
