Fairview Nursing Care Center Creates Warming Station for Local Residents During Freezing Weather
Fairview Nursing Care Center is opening a temporary Warming Station for local residents seeking refuge from record-low temperatures and below zero degree wind chills in Forest Hills area.
Avi Katz, Administrator at Fairview Nursing Care Center, advises Queens locals to “Avoid the cold and stay inside as much as possible. Needy senior citizens in the nearby Forest Hills area can make their way over to Fairview Nursing Care Center. We are offering free hot cocoa, tea and warm blankets to those looking for refuge from the cold.” His message particularly goes out to the elderly, who he claims are much more likely to be affected by the cold.
Frigid temperatures have grounded hundreds of flights at nearby John F Kennedy Airport as well as LaGuardia Airport, according to the Queens Times Ledger. The entire Queens area is feeling the freeze with wind chills below zero degrees today.
