Pine Wood Derby Workshop

It that time of year again, let the sawdust fly.  Announcing the 6^th annual Old Town Ace Hardware Pine Wood Derby Workshop!  Due to this success of this event (approximately 390 Cub Scout participated in 2013) the workshop will continue being held for four days over the first three weekends in January.  Due to the success of the event, we are adding 2 additional days.  The Workshop will be held on Saturday and Sunday January 4^th, 5^th, 11^th, 12^th, 18^th and 19^th 2014 at 809 S. Washington Street in Alexandria.  Last year lines were long on the second Saturday of the event, so plan accordingly to reduce your wait on line.

Cub Scouts, their parents and siblings are invited to bring their Pine Wood Derby cars to the store.  Old Town Hardware Associates Bob Chapeskie, Ben Laha, Rich Strezelecki will rough cut the designs the Cub Scouts have chosen.  In addition former Associate and Industrial arts teach at George Washington Middle School Kyle Godfrey will be lending a hand.  Cub Scouts are required to have their car design traced on the car blocks.  In addition, electric sanders, sand paper and hand tools will be available for the Cub Scouts to perform additional work on their cars.  Boy Scouts from local Troop 135 will also be on hand to help parents that are new to Pine Wood Derby and may find the experience a little bit overwhelming.

Continuing this year Old Town Ace Hardware is asking for a $1 voluntary donation per car cut.  In addition, Old Town Ace Hardware will donate 5% of all sales of Pine Wood related products (e.g. spray paint, sandpaper, pine wood products) sold at the event.  Proceeds from these donations will be shared between the Children’s Miracle Network and the Boy Scouts of America Colonial District of offset cost of the Pine Wood Derby District Finals.  In 2013, the event generated $1,000 in donations.

The Workshop will be open form 10:00 am to 2:00 pm each day, and popcorn will be served.  Please direct any questions to the store open each day from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm M –S, and 10:00 to 6:00 Sunday.
