This event will take place on Saturday February 8th in Decatur, GA. The event will feature special guest performances, giveaways, an empowering message to teens, and a fun night of skating in the name of love. The Still Standing Foundation also offers Teen Dating Violence Awareness workshops to churches, youth groups and organizations across metro Atlanta. According to research by the Center for Disease Control, one in every 10 high school students report being a victim of physical dating abuse. February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness month. “This is becoming a growing public health issue, and I’m more concerned about the victims who aren't reporting the violence,” said Lowry, who survived five years of mental and physical abuse, where she felt stripped of her dignity and self-worth. She was able to gather the strength and courage to break away from the situation, leaving her with a strong desire to regain a high level of self-confidence and self-respect. “I'm well aware of the difficulties when someone is trying to get away from an abusive environment, so these workshops and events are to empower, motivate and encourage people to prevent this from happening.” The Still Standing Foundation was founded in 2009 and immediately became known as a positive outlet that helped create life-transforming opportunities for abused women. Because of her efforts with the organization, Lowry was awarded the 2012 Rising Star Award, which is given to individuals who have shown considerable strides in community involvement and improvement. With Lowry’s unbridled creativity and unlimited faith, she hopes to bring a new dimension to philanthropy and given purpose # # # To purchase tickets for "Skate In The Name of Love" visit https://www.eventbrite.com/ For more information about the Still Standing Foundation, to schedule an interview with Tamiko Lowry or to book a Teen Dating Violence Awareness Workshop call 754-777-8263 or email info@thestillstandingfoundation.org End
