Landowners Who Lease Land to Hunters Face Increased Liability Risks

According to Texas Outdoor Insurance, property owners who lease their land to hunters have a responsibility to provide hunters on their property a reasonable duty of care.

Jan. 1, 2014 - PRLog -- “As a property owner, you assume certain risks when you lease your property or invite game hunters to your property,” says Texas Outdoor Insurance. “You could be held liable in cases of injuries or accidents on your property.”

Generally, a landowner who allows hunters onto their property without charge faces a lower liability risk. Once a landowner begins charging hunters to use their land however, they encounter a completely new set of responsibilities, and increased liability risks.

“Outdoors insurance can protect you from being held liable should someone become injured while hunting on your property,” continues Texas Outdoor Insurance. “This is especially important if you encourage people to hunt on your property, regardless of if it is in conjunction with a hunting club or other outdoors club.”

Depending on the extent and nature of an injury, a landowner could be held liable for injured hunters’ medical expenses, and face extensive lawsuits that could be financially devastating.

For landowners who are considering allowing hunting groups onto their land, it is important to protect themselves from liability with an insurance policy.

It’s important for landowners to make sure they have the right policy. While some landowners assume that their business liability or homeowners’ policy will cover them in the event of an accident, this is not usually the case. Generally, these policies do not provide coverage for landowners who lease their land out for hunting, and will not extend to provide liability coverage for hunting-related injuries.

Landowners liability insurance can protect landowners from liability, should someone become injured while hunting on their property. This insurance is especially important for landowners who encourage people to hunt on their property, and for those who lease their land to hunters or hunting clubs.

Texas Outdoor Insurance provides liability policies to landowners across the state of Texas. For more information on landowner insurance, visit their website at www.texasoutdoorinsurance.com.
