Music fans vote ‘AM’ by Arctic Monkeys their favourite album of 2013

Music fans from around the world have voted ‘AM’ by Arctic Monkeys as their album of the year for 2013. A poll by Musicblogged.com asked fans to choose their favourite from a shortlist of ten.

SHOREDITCH, U.K. - Dec. 31, 2013 - PRLog -- 2013 has been a good year for Arctic Monkeys; in June the Sheffield band headlined Glastonbury festival for the second time, a matter of weeks before releasing fifth album ‘AM’. The album received critical acclaim and went on to gain a nomination for the 2013 Mercury Music prize. ‘AM’ also gave the band their fifth consecutive number one album in the UK, becoming the first Indie-label band to achieve this with their debut and subsequent four releases. ‘AM’ was a hit with fans across the globe and the accompanying arena tour sold out globally. This adulation from Arctic Monkeys fans led many to vote for ‘AM’ as their album of the year 2013 in a poll held by Musicblogged.com.

Voting over a three week period music fans selected their choice of album of the year from a shortlist of 10 albums that included records by Daft Punk, Kanye West and David Bowie. However when voting finished it was Arctic Monkeys’ album that won, polling just over 30% of votes. English folk singer Laura Marling’s fourth album ‘Once I was an Eagle’ finished in second place, with ‘Reflektor’ by Canadian band Arcade Fire and ‘Days are Gone’, by LA sisters HAIM, finishing in joint third place.

Produced by English musician James Ford in California, ‘AM’ featured guest appearances from Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) and Bill Ryder-Jones. Singles from ‘AM’ included "R U Mine?" and "Do I Wanna Know?", two tracks released before the album that hinted at the sound of Arctic Monkeys latest effort. The track “I Wanna Be Yours” was based on a poem of the same name by legendary English poet John Cooper Clarke. The album charted well around the world, including a number six position in the US Billboard charts, becoming Arctic Monkeys’ highest charting album to date in the US.
