The selection process is quite rigid, involving multiple steps for each candidate. They look at criteria including education, leadership positions, community and professional involvement, legal achievement and other accomplishments.  The society then nominates a number of individuals with similar standards of legal talent, but a wide range of interests and activities. Once the initial list is prepared, a new group of members review the nominations and come up with a final list of candidates. The candidates are then informed of their selection to this prestigious list of attorneys (either Top 40 Lawyers Under 40 or Top 100 Lawyers) and invited to join the American Society of Legal Advocates.
