Objectives: The purpose of this course is to provide the student with a foundation in UAV propulsion design. The student shall have a good appreciation of why UAV power plants evolved to their current form. Further they shall be more aware of the multitude of opportunities that are available in the revolutionary growing UAV industry, by which they can contribute to the further development of these systems. After completing the course the student will be able to: Understand the choices and tradeoffs of different types of aero-engines, and the primary parameters on which their performance depends. Understand the aerodynamic and thermodynamic characteristics of major engine components. Gain the different possibilities of various propulsion types for UAV applications Analysis of operational behavior of the major components in UAV engines. Knowledge the factors that bound the performance of UAV engine components Be familiar with the performance limitations of various types of UAV propulsion systems based on the engine cycle. Know the factors that determine the transient response of different kinds UAV engines. Explain fundamentals of UAV propulsion theories Understand how to match an engine to a UAV Analyze the interference between the engine and UAV systems. Understand UAV alternative propulsion systems Learn management maintenance repairs and overall repairs (MRO) Take advantage of computer programs to design and simulate UAV propulsion This course is part of the Masters and Doctorate Degrees in Unmanned Systems Engineering. Unmanned Vehicle University is the only school in the world licensed to grant these degrees. Most of the faculty hold PhDs in engineering and have a cobined experience of over 500 years in unmanned systems.
