Evan Guthrie Law Firm Volunteers Estate Planning And Wills To Habitat For Humanity In Columbia, SC

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Dec. 22, 2013 - PRLog -- Attorney Evan Guthrie of the Evan Guthrie Law Firm in Charleston, South Carolina helped to provide no cost estate planning for a wills clinic for Habitat For Humanity homeowners in Columbia, SC on Saturday June 29^th 2013. The event was sponsored by South Carolina Young Lawyers and helped Habitat homeowners to pass on their homes to future generations. The owners in the Habitat for Humanity program are especially vulnerable to potentially losing their homes when the original homeowner dies due to the complexity of the probate court process without a will and the potential for there to be a complicated ownership situation among several surviving heirs.

The goal of the event was to promote estate planning among the participants in the program to have a clear plan and means to pass on title to potential heirs in a clear and effective manner. Attorney Evan Guthrie and several other young lawyers from throughout the state of South Carolina and from as far away as Georgia donated their time to the event. Homeowners were provided with a last will and testament, a living will which in South Carolina is also known as a Declaration of Desire of Natural Death, and a Healthcare Power of Attorney. The advance directives work together with a will to offer protection for end of life decisions and incapacity. The homeowners that took part in the clinic received fully executed documents that same day.

This was the third time that Mr. Guthrie has traveled to Columbia to take part in the Habitat wills clinic. The Evan Guthrie Law Firm was represented by Attorney Guthrie and paralegal intern Nicole Stoudemire, who was on hand to lend her legal skills to the event. Mr. Guthrie enjoyed his visit to the event and being able to help the greater South Carolina community in one of his main practice areas.
