Long Term Care Insurance Association Issues Holiday Advisory

LOS ANGELES - Dec. 20, 2013 - PRLog -- Los Angeles; December 20, 2013 -  Holiday gatherings with family members are a joyous occasion but don't overlook the importance of making sure elderly parents and loved ones are prepared for the year ahead.

"Many adults only visit their aging parents once a year which makes it essential to assess their current condition and spend a few minutes focused on the possible outcomes of living a long life," says Jesse Slome, director of the American Association for Long Term Care Insurance.

The long term care insurance expert recommends doing a quick home safety assessment.  "As you walk around look for potential hazards that can result in a fall," Slome advises.  "Loose area rugs, extension cords or cable TV wires that are not secured safely to a wall. "  Clutter is a common hazard Slome points out that can be easily addressed.

Be sure to ask if the parents ever purchased long-term care insurance.  "You'd be amazed how many calls we get a year from adult children who discover a policy after the parent passed away or believe their parent has a coverage but lack any vital information," Slome points out.  "If they have coverage, all you simply need is the name of the insurance company although a policy number."
