HIGHLAND, Ind. - Dec. 20, 2013 - PRLog -- The surprise second-edition of the Ridgeline is not just going to be a reminder after a short hiatus, but a completely redesigned truck, completely re-imagined from head to toe. The current Ridgeline is manufactured, and will continue to be, in US Honda’s manufacturing plant in Lincoln, Alabama, keeping this all-American truck in America.

The first generation of the Honda Ridgeline appeared in 2005, and won the North American Truck of the Year award in 2006. It featured an intriguing and practical cargo stowing system with a layout much different from other vehicles in its class. But with its minivan guts, it just couldn’t keep up with the towing, hauling, and work capacity of conventional trucks. This minivan soul may have kept it from taking off, as it’s sold less than 250,000 units since its release.

Full-sized truck brands like Ram, Ford, Chevy, GMC, Toyota, and Nissan all have better numbers on selling pickup trucks than the Ridgeline. However, sales are looking up, with Honda selling 16,160 Ridgelines by December, which is a 29% increase from the same time period last year. Plus, they’re slated to offer a special edition of the first generation pickup for 2014. This increase in interest might be why Honda has decided to bring it back after a break.

No technical details of the second generation Ridgeline have been made public, leaving much to the imagination. It could be based on the Odyssey’s minivan platform like the current model, or it could get entirely unique underpinnings. It’s towing capacity and hauling capabilities could be improved, it could be a different size, its design and layout could get an overhaul.

Production of the first-generation Ridgeline is set to end in June 2014. And with the current demand for the Ridgeline, dealers may exhaust their supply before the next-gen pickup is ready. Hopes are high in Honda’s headquarters, though, that dealerships who run into that problem won’t have to deal with it for long. Within two years, a reimagined Ridgeline hopes to compete with the other pickups on the block. Interested drivers are encouraged to contact their local Honda dealer for further information as Honda gets ready to reintroduce this iconic pickup to the truck market.
