By: ALVA Pictures Founded in 1992 by actors, Danny Glover, Ja'net Dubois of "Good Times," and Ayuko Babu, the 2014 Pan African Film Festival will feature more than 150 new films and over 100 fine artists from across North America, the Caribbean, South America, Europe and Africa. This year's festival will also honor trailblazers and pioneers in the film industry. The Lessons of Hayti details the historic rise of African American self-determination and economic empowerment following the Civil War and highlights a period in American history that saw more than 100 independent Black towns and more than 70 Historic Black Colleges and Universities built within 40 years of President Abraham Lincoln's signing of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863. The documentary, produced by Harlem filmmakers, Terry A. Boyd, Byron C. Hunter and Edward Harris Jr., will be televised nationwide during Black History Month 2014.
