Dec. 20, 2013 - PRLog -- (Nashville, TN) – American Paper & Twine Co., Titans Radio and Georgia-Pacific Communication Papers announced today that Chick Knitter from Hobgood Elementary in Murfreesboro, TN, was selected as the Teacher of the Year for the 2013 football season.

“Our partnership with the Tennessee Titans and Georgia-Pacific Communication Papers, allows American Paper & Twine the opportunity to honor outstanding teachers throughout the Titans Radio listening area,” said Karen Doochin Shaffer, Vice President of American Paper and Twine Co. “During the Titans’ regular season, we search through submissions to find dedicated teachers, and the winners receive a large gift basket full of school supplies for their classroom, and a new winner is announced during every Tennessee Titans game.  At the end of the season we select a ‘Teacher of the Year’ from those weekly winners.”

“We take great pride in rewarding tremendous teachers throughout the Titans’ season,” said Lonnie Spivak, e-Commerce and Marketing Manager. “Mr. Knitter was one of the standouts early in the year, and we are extremely happy to present him with this award.” Mr. Knitter’s award will be presented by the Tennessee Titans’ Executive Vice President, Don MacLachlan; David Morris, American Paper & Twine CFO; Lonnie Spivak, e-Commerce and Marketing Manager at American Paper & Twine; and Frank Walton from Georgia-Pacific Communication Papers. As the Teacher of the Year, Mr. Knitter will be presented an award and a gift basket of school supplies (worth approx. $800) during the December 29th Titans game vs. the Houston Texans.

Chick Knitter was the Teacher of the Week recipient for week seven, and was nominated by Tammy Grizzard, Hobgood Elementary Principal. “Mr. Knitter could teach any where with his record of effectiveness, but he chooses to be at Hobgood,” Principal Grizzard said. “Hobgood has a free and reduced lunch percentage of around 90%. Every year Mr. Knitter and his wife do many things for the students he teaches. They take kids to the circus, dinner, sporting events, buy shoes, clothes, etc. He is dedicated to trying to mentor to these students, and he works diligently to give them the academic skills necessary to succeed at the next level.” Mrs. Grizzard continued to say, “Every year they grow poinsettias in the green house and take them to the nursing home in December and visit with the patients at the county run center. Mr. Knitter never wants to be recognized for his excellence and effectiveness. I would love for him to be recognized for the difference he makes in the lives of children.”
