Follow on Google News | Frisco/McKinney Tutor Honored for Endless Passion with 2013 Tutor of the Year AwardSharon Favreau Chosen as ‘Valedictorian’ of More Than 17,000 Tutors
By: Tutor Doctor With over 30 years of teaching experience, Sharon always goes above and beyond to make the students’ parents comfortable by implementing “meet and greet” sessions to help the students feel more at ease with the idea of having a tutor. Additionally, she supports her students outside of their tutoring sessions by attending their extracurricular games and activities to cheer them on. Sharon constantly strives to make every child feel important by becoming a part of their lives and teaching them how to embrace their strengths. Since joining Tutor Doctor in October 2012, Sharon’s positive, motivating demeanour has made a remarkable difference in the lives of her students and their families. “I feel so special and honored to have won this award and to be recognized by the families I work with,” said Favreau. “Being part of Tutor Doctor has provided me with richness in my life that I wouldn’t have otherwise. It’s been a beautiful experience working with so many loving, caring and understanding families. Tutoring is something I know, and something I feel good about, and I can’t imagine doing anything else.” Neither time nor distance is a concern for Sharon when it comes to her job. On a regular basis, she travels up to an hour to take assignments she feels will be a good fit. She contributes her success to being honest with her students, which helps build trust, and truly listening to them with her eyes, ears and heart. She considers each student as she would her own children, and was even invited to join three of her students’ families for Thanksgiving dinner this year. “Sharon is passionate about improving the lives of the children and the families she serves, and I am truly honored to have her as a representative of Tutor Doctor and our core values,” said Stacy Parkelj, Owner of Tutor Doctor Frisco/McKinney. “Sharon has many qualities that make her a winning candidate, but ultimately, it’s how much the families love her that makes her a true winner. She not only has the patience of a saint, but every parent she’s worked with has told us that she’s changed their child's life.” In a particular instance, Sharon tutored a fourth grade student who had been struggling in school since first grade. He was tested for a learning disability, prescribed medication for ADHD, and was going to be held back from fifth grade. His mother decided to call Tutor Doctor as a last resort and was placed with Sharon, who she considers her family’s angel. Sharon made learning fun and exciting for the student, who is now confident, excited about school, eager to participate in classroom discussions and moving on to fifth grade. The family was so appreciative of Sharon for giving their son the support he needed to succeed, and Tutor Doctor was once again proud to have her as an exceptional part of the network, helping to turn the company mission into a reality.
