Visual Paradigm Releases UeXceler 1.0 for Better Requirements Gathering

Dec. 19, 2013 - PRLog -- UeXceler aligns the goal of agile software development that values the involvement and contribution of stakeholders in identifying real requirements. Throughout the requirement gathering process, stakeholders are encouraged to express their concerns and needs, which are then converted into use cases, user scenarios and requirements of the solution. Traditional requirements gathering focuses on capturing and managing requirements. UeXceler goes one step further by incorporating the wireframing techniques in improving user experience. Wireframes are created to illustrate the end product in quick and cost-effective manner. By the end of the requirements gathering process, stakeholders not just see a list of requirements but a set of business stories (scenarios) and a visualized system through wireframes. Both stakeholders and development teams can comfortably consent to the planned requirements specification and go straight into development activities. After all, UeXceler not just capture right requirements but also deliver great user experience products to stakeholders.

UeXceler works with all the iterative and incremental development approaches. The UeXceler guideline split into five phases.

Identify – Meeting with stakeholders and capture what end-user needs (user goal). A list of use cases will be produced in this phase.

Discuss – Interview and discuss with front-line stakeholders. Focus on a single use case (user goal) to gain detailed understanding such as the preferred way of accomplishing use cases, related user concerns and specific requirements. Simple use case notes in point form are recorded during the discussion.

Elaborate – Produce scenario (business story) and a consolidated list of requirements base on the notes gathered in the previous phase.

Design – Create scenario-based wireframe for visualizing user interface and representing screen flows.

Consent – Show the wireframe flow (like a screen flow) to stakeholders to verify the requirements and behaviors of the system.

UeXceler stresses the importance of collaboration with customer rather than any kind of negotiation. By adopting the UeXceler requirements gathering guideline, stakeholders can "see" what the system will be without great development effort. Software development lifecycle is highly optimized by having clear direction, resulted from clear requirements.
