Richard Greenberg, CISSP, Named ISSA Fellow

Dec. 18, 2013 - PRLog -- The Los Angeles Chapter of the Information Security Association (ISSA-LA) announced that Richard Greenberg has been named a Fellowby the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA). ISSA is the community of choice for international cybersecurity professionals dedicated to advancing individual growth, managing technology risk, and protecting critical information and infrastructure.

“The Fellow Program attracts a highly competitive pool of candidates and I am pleased to announce that five Distinguished Fellows and eight Fellows have been chosen during the winter 2013 selection cycle,” said George Proeller, ISSA Fellow Chair. “We congratulate Richard Greenberg and greatly appreciate his contributions to this association and the international cybersecurity industry.”

“I am honored to be sharing this distinction with my fellow dedicated security professionals”, Mr. Greenberg commented. “I am also very proud to be associated with such a dedicated group of Board members and volunteers with the Los Angeles Chapter who continue to work long hours to spread the word about security to the LA community.”

“As an ISSA Fellow Member Program honoree, these individuals participate in an elite group of learned professionals who work together as peers in the pursuit of service, knowledge and excellence for the benefit of the information security field. They are an inspiration to us all,” added Ira Winkler, ISSA International President.

Twice each year an exemplary group of long-term ISSA members are recognized in three categories: Senior Members, Fellows, and Distinguished Fellows. These individuals have distinguished themselves in advancing the professionalism, stature and influence of information security professionals through serving as leaders of ISSA. They have significantly contributed to the cybersecurity community, as well as to chapter leadership and/or the international or national security posture. Honorees are selected by the Fellow Selection Committee and are voted on by the ISSA International Board of Directors.

Mr. Greenberg, Information Security Officer for Los Angeles County Public Health, is President of the Los Angeles Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP), and a Board member of ISSA Los Angeles. He is a visionary, always looking ahead and trying to anticipate where his organization should be focusing its efforts and resources to address new threats.

Mr. Greenberg has been a published author in the ISSA Journal, and has spoken on Information Security individually and on panels, including at the OWASP AppSec Global Conference and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Privacy and Security Forums in Los Angeles in January and November. He recently moderated the CISO Panel at the ISSA-LA Security Summit in May, 2013.
