MarryAbroad.co.uk's Top 5 Yuletide Wedding Destinations

With Christmas just a week away, Steph Bishop - Co-Founder of website MarryAbroad.co.uk, takes a look at the best festive worldwide wedding destinations.

THURCASTON, U.K. - Dec. 18, 2013 - PRLog -- 1) Italy
“Italy at Christmastime makes a fabulous wedding choice. Apart from the traditional Italian fayre such as panettone, baccala (salted dried cod) and vermicelli, which you could have for your wedding breakfast, just imagine exchanging vows in an Italian palace lit with fairy lights and candles, as your friends and family watch. Or the Italian ski resorts offer fantastic backdrops of snow and mountains – to make the perfect wintery wedding pictures.

“Couples getting married in Italy in winter will also gain a more authentic feel to their wedding, since most tourists have gone home,” says Bishop.

2) Austria
“Christmas in Austria is a celebration of decorated trees and garlands, midnight mass, and a feast of goose, ham, mulled wine, sachertorte and Christmas cookies. This time of year is magical for weddings too. Couples can choose from a number of atmospheric venues – such as an Austrian schloss (castle) or wooden chalet up a mountain, as the snow falls outside,” says Bishop.

3) Canada
“Further afield, a Canadian wedding at Christmas is a relaxed affair. We recommend couples get married in the spectacular Rocky Mountains in the west, have a French-style ceremony in Quebec, or get married in a lodge by a frozen lake in the east of the country.

“A nice touch we also often suggest is for the bride to arrive at the ceremony by horse drawn sleigh, kept warm by blankets, with the groom hearing her arrival by the sound of bells on the sleigh,” says Bishop.

4) New York
“A classic winter wedding choice, New York at Christmas is one of the best times of year to exchange vows. Couples can choose a snowy ceremony in Central Park, marry in a hotel with a magnificent views over the city, or even exchange vows whilst ice skating, at the Rockefeller center. A New York wedding during the week of Christmas is an incredible experience and one never to be forgotten,” says Bishop.

5) Argentina
“Or if snow simply isn't your thing, then Argentina can be fantastic for a winter wedding. All the “usual” Christmas decorations and traditions can still be found here - fairy lights, Christmas trees (with cotton wool balls to represent snow), and gifts under the tree. However, as the weather is warm, a picnic or BBQ is more likely on Christmas day. Couples could incorporate some of these festivities into their wedding, and enjoy getting married in a relaxed atmosphere as the sun beats down. An unusual but definitely unique take on a Christmas wedding!,” says Bishop.
