And the Most Awesome Dog is...Lucy!

SEATTLE - Dec. 17, 2013 - PRLog -- A one-and-a-half year old, 60-pound German Shepherd, who six months ago was unwanted and bouncing around from home to home, is now the official face of 1st Security Bank.

Lucy, who earlier this year found a home with a Silverdale family, was the darling of the crowd (and it was a big crowd) in the bank’s “Most Awesome Dog” Facebook contest to find its new “Spokes-Pooch.”

1st Security Bank’s Facebook page was a total dog show for over six weeks, as close to 150 photos were submitted, and Lucy, her face showing a hint of sand in her beach “beauty” photo, recorded the most Facebook likes, earning the coveted title.

In doing so, Lucy will be the bank’s official “Spokes-Pooch” for a year, already surviving a beauty day at the dog spa and her photo shoot. She also won a $250 gift card from Petco, which Lucy is hoping will be spent in the food, treat and dog bed aisles.

Lucy came to Katie and Adam Bowman when a friend asked if they could take in Lucy until her owners returned to town.

“We picked her up,” explained Katie Bowman, “and she was so on edge and nervous she was growling, nipping and barking at us.” Lucy was underweight, her hair was stringy and matted, and she was in heat. “We introduced her to our two little dogs, a Miniature Pinscher and Pomeranian/Terrier, and all she did was wag her tail as they looked her over.”

When the original owners told them they didn’t want her, the Bowman’s decided to nurse Lucy back to health and keep her until they could find her a good home.

“I couldn’t imagine dropping this poor dog at the Humane Society so she could live in a kennel until someone decided they wanted her,” Katie Bowman said. They took her to a groomer, started her on a healthy diet, and, “as she became more comfortable with us, her sweet, loving, loyal character started to show. And we fell in love!”

Just as her Facebook fans did, liking her over 600 times, and putting on a doggone good face for 1st Security Bank. It was a huge response to this first-ever contest for the bank.

“All she ever wanted and needed was a little time and love. We’ve had her with us for over six months now and plan to have her with us for the rest of her life,” Kate Bowman continued. “We are a military family and prepared to take her with us wherever we go.”
