Hiestand's Dystopia Now Named to Kirkus Reviews' Best of 2013

PORTLAND, Ore. - Dec. 17, 2013 - PRLog -- Each year, Kirkus Reviews publishes top one-hundred lists in several categories, including fiction, children's books, teen books, non-fiction, and indie books.  The final category, indie books, was published this Monday, and included Harvey Hiestand's debut novel, Dystopia Now.

Dystopia Now is the tale of a young personnel director whose job includes firing minimum-wage employees for profit.  As a post-recession Los Angeles falls to civil unrest, Zeno Jacobs realizes the immorality of his job, but he can't quit because he'd descend into poverty and homelessness.  As riots intensify and spread near, Zeno finds himself both a contributer to and a target of the violence.

Dystopia Now was published in Portland, Oregon on November 6, 2013 by Air Raid Press.
