Custom Designed Engagement Rings Becoming More Popular

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Dec. 17, 2013 - PRLog -- Despite the uncertainty of the economic recovery, engagement rings continue to be a reasonably recession-proof industry. However, as consumers become more educated and better informed about diamonds and precious metals, there is a growing trend of custom designed rings that people are creating themselves with the help of professional jewelers in order to guarantee they get exactly what they are looking for.

The wedding industry is growing at a remarkable rate in many non-traditional venues. Destination weddings are on the rise, people are opting for venues other than churches, and little personal touches are being seen everywhere to make sure that the event stands out from all the rest. One such departure from the norm can be witnessed in the growing trend of couples designing their own affordable engagement rings.

“Classic diamond engagement rings, like the traditional solitaire look, are still our biggest seller by far,” one designer from The Diamond Supplier recently announced when giving a tour of their workshop, “but part of that reason is because many people don’t even know about the option of designing their own rings. The experience that most people continue to have is to make the trip to the store, look at the display case, and choose the one that looks the best. Now, with so many other elements of marriage and weddings becoming non-traditional, people are discovering their rings don’t have to be as well.”

When asked what the reasons might be for this growing trend, he listed off a number of options, the number one being that asking the question isn’t as much of a surprise anymore. “People these days are talking about getting married longer and more intensely before beginning their engagement. The result of this is, we get more and more people who are buying the ring together. From that point, it’s a small step to introduce them to the concept of designing their engagement rings.” Other factors that he cited are a desire to incorporate elements from their lives into the ring and that, with the onslaught of information, people are better educated about what they are buying and in using that knowledge to make their decision.
