Eaton, Hong Kong – A Sustainable Christmas to Remember

JORDAN, Hong Kong - Dec. 16, 2013 - PRLog -- Celebrating Christmas in the most sustainable way possible is Eaton’s tradition and this Christmas will be no different with the production of the environmentally friendly Christmas decorations promoting the principles of recycling and reuse.

Hotel Lobby - Dazzling Sustainable Christmas Tree
This 5 meter tall tree is composed of 50 reusable garlands and decorated with 410 fused light bulbs. With the assistance of The Eaton Green Team, all the light bulbs are coloured with low volatile organic compound emulsion paint and then hand decorated with “Christmassy” patterns. On top of the Christmas tree is a handmade recycled twinkling star made with kaleidoscopic light tubes. Together with energy saving LED lighting (which can save up to 75% more energy than traditional light bulb), the dazzling tree will sparkle with sustainability this Christmas.

Main St Cafe / E Club - 3D Spiral Eco Christmas Tree
Taking pride in being one of the foremost eco-friendly hotels in Hong Kong, Eaton always try to make full use of the discarded materials from the hotel. And this year our fantastic Engineering team has fashioned discarded wooden boards left over from our refurbishment into a stunning 3D spiral Christmas tree. Decorating the spiral tree is an impressive shining star formed by fused eco light bulbs matching the Dazzling Sustainable Christmas Tree in the lobby.

T Bar – Wine Cork Wreath
Other than our Christmas trees, an advent wreath is also a traditional symbol of this festive season. But instead of using the evergreen garlands, our Environmental Officer, Katrina Cheung, has teamed with the mixologists in T Bar to create four festive advent wreaths using over 400 used wine corks.

“Christmas is all about loving and sharing. Since 2009, Eaton aims to share our love for this planet by creating a Sustainable Christmas that features decorations made of recyclables – a way to eliminate the side effect of resource wastage,” said Environmental Officer, Katrina Cheung, “This is our fifth consecutive year of creating the Sustainable Christmas and we are proud of making it an on-going hotel tradition.”
