Dec. 11, 2013 - PRLog -- Australian-owned cloud-based accounting software provider Gem Accounts (http://www.gemaccounts.com/) has launched a major assault on the SME market with the release of two new versions, including a full-featured free version for the micro and small business sector.

Under the new product and pricing structure, Gem‘s cloud-based accounting product is now available in three distinctive versions - Free, SME and mid-market enterprises (MME). Gem has previously only targeted larger enterprises which had grown beyond the capabilities of other cloud-based systems.

The SME version has been competitively priced at less than half the price of the MME product. The free version includes most features of the other products except live support.

Gem Accounts Managing Director Andrew Crowe said the new versions had been released in response to demand for a local cloud-based solution that served clients full lifecycle, from start-up to serious market player.

“Our accounting firm partners want a single product to support internally from their smallest clients through to their largest clients,” Mr Crowe said. “Gem suited the mid-market and large users but was too expensive for the micro and small users so this addresses that challenge. Additionally, smaller potential end users have requested a version that suits their business size.”

Gem Accounts is a fully-featured accounting product with multi-country capability providing multi-currency, multi-language, line-by-line eliminations for consolidation, and all the features you would expect from a serious accounting package.

Brisbane-based software technology company simPRO Software acquired a cornerstone investment in the Gem’s parent company in October and is in the process of integrating the system into its existing suite of products.

Mr Crowe said that GEM was keen to support the growth of small business and hoped to retain those clients as they grew.

“As an advocate of small business I firmly believe in supporting startup and small businesses with a free version for them to grow their business on,” Mr Crowe said. “Offering a range of products to suit different business requirements and sizes provides enterprises the upgrade path they need as they grow.”

Mr Crowe said the free version gave smaller users access to the same powerful feature set included in GEM’s top of the range product at no cost.

“We see this investment in small business as a long-term relationship builder for our product offering over the coming years,” Mr Crowe said. “We know startups and small businesses need to  watch every cent - so our free product gives them access to a professional tool from the beginning.”
