SOMERVILLE, Mass. - Dec. 8, 2013 - PRLog -- The Duo “2” (flutist Peter H. Bloom and pianist Mary Jane Rupert), who have toured the globe as champions of American music, will perform the rarely heard Sonata Opus 22 by Marion Bauer and the magnificent Kleemation (2003, inspired by drawings of Paul Klee) by Elizabeth Vercoe (“one of the most inventive composers working in America today” - The Washington Post).  The performance is part of the Opensound Concert Series, Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 8:00 pm, Third Life Studio, 33 Union Square, Somerville, MA 02143.  Information:  shoe4@verizon.net  or 617 776 8778.

Hailed for beautiful phrasing, consummate duet passages, superb technical facility (St. Andrews Performing Arts),Bloom and Rupert have performed together for 20 years, with recent tours in New Zealand, Australia, Thailand and the Midwest, Southeast and Northeastern United States. Peter H. Bloom concertizes internationally and appears on 35 recordings from labels including Sony Classical, Dorian, Leo Records, and others. Winner of the American Musicological Society’s Noah Greenberg Award, he is a distinguished classical artist and a noted jazz musician. The Boston Globe called his playing “a revelation for unforced sweetness and strength,” while JazzImprov praised his "exquisite melody."  Mary Jane Rupert, acclaimed by The New York Times as exhibiting "indeed, real sensitivity," has given solo recitals from Carnegie Hall to Beijing Concert Hall and has appeared as a classical pianist and harpist, with symphony orchestras and chamber ensembles throughout the United States.

“2” is featured on the title track of a new CD from Navona Records,Kleemation and Other Works by Elizabeth Vercoe (“outstanding in every respect, an artistic masterwork” – Dr. Laura G. In another December event, Peter H. Bloom (flute and alto saxophone) will perform with the Aardvark Jazz Orchestra December 21 at Emmanuel Church, 15 Newbury Street, Boston, MA as the band gives its 41st Annual Christmas Concert, featuring the complete Duke Ellington/Billy Strayhorn Nutcracker Suite.  The Aardvark Jazz Orchestra, led by founder/director Mark Harvey, is one of the longest running large jazz ensembles in the world.  The orchestra has given more than 150 premieres and has released 11 CDs, including 6 discs on the prestigious Leo Label.  Aardvark has been praised for “lush sonorities and a saxophonic blend worthy of Duke’s finest reed sections” (Jazz Times).  For information on the December 21 show, call 617-776-8778.  Tickets are $20 and proceeds will benefit Pine Street Inn, the largest provider of permanent supportive housing, emergency shelter, job training and placement, and street outreach for homeless men and women in New England.
