Custom Modifications Simplify Manufacturing Processes and Save Time

WOODSTOCK, Vt. - Dec. 6, 2013 - PRLog -- Electronic circuit board manufacturer Allendale Electronics sought support from MISys to develop a custom program that would simplify data entry and improve manufacturing efficiency. One of Allendale Electronics’ greatest challenges was entering data from the bill of materials (BOM). The BOM needed to be entered multiple times during the production process and was used to complete three different forms: One for purchasing or ordering the correct customer-supplied parts, one for the automated pick & place machine, and one for the automated inspection machine. Multiple entries made it more likely that parts would be assigned erroneously or location information would be entered incorrectly.

According to Cyril Meagher, president of Allendale Electronics, “Before MISys, we were using twenty spreadsheets to control our purchasing. Our reporting had become cumbersome because of the amount of data that needed to be entered, one line at a time. MISys made input more efficient and saved us a lot of time.”

MISys introduced Allendale Electronics to their implementation partner, Central Nervous System (CNS), who worked with Allendale Electronics to make MISys Manufacturing the source location for all of the BOM information. Allendale Electronics’ BOM included a number of nonstandard pieces of information that are used to indicate placement coordinates and rotational information for their automated machines. CNS created custom fields for the nonstandard information and then created customized MISys reports that would export properly to each of the required files for import into the shop machinery.

The custom designed templates developed by CNS convert the format used by the customer to the MISys BOM import format, which can be used in all applications. The solution reduces data entry by enabling Allendale to import the data from a customer one time only.
